chloe – a dog of many talents

My mum and dad had a dog called Chloe. She was a very charming dog, if a little bit odd. She was a cross between a collie dog and a bassett hound. Her front legs were short like a bassett hound’s legs and her back legs were longer like a collie dog’s legs. So she was on a sort of a slope. She didn’t seem to mind and I suppose it was a blessing that her legs weren’t the other way around. She might have looked a bit like a hyena. Their front legs are longer, which makes them look quite surprised.
Anyway she was a school dog. My family lived in a school and Chloe was used to wandering around amongst the children and they all loved her. She was so gentle and good natured and she was a dog of many talents.
One of those talents was quite amazing. She would go into the kindergarden when the children were having their fruit. Chloe loved fruit and she was able to slip the fruit out of a child’s hand with out them noticing. Really, she could. It was something that she did with her tongue. I suppose it was a disguised sort of lick. Chloe was a bit licky and the children didn’t seem to mind. They always talked away to her as she was removing their fruit and then they’d run away happily to the sandpit or somewhere having forgotten all about the bit of apple that had miraculously disappeared.
